    PRACTICE AREA

    Litigation

Litigation is at the heart of Ioannides Demetriou LLC’s practice because when a dispute cannot be resolved amicably, the courts become the final arbiter.

Even though the terms “lawyer” and “advocate” are used interchangeably in Cyprus, at this firm, we believe that there is a distinct and crucial difference between the two. Our advocates know that advocacy is an art. Its proper execution demands high expert knowledge of the law and procedure, mastery of the facts of the case and the ability to convince.

This is why our firm’s litigation department is home to seasoned advocates who have successfully handled some of the most complex and bitterly disputed cases ever brought before the Cypriot courts. Our advocates handle large, multimillion-euro disputes that contain complicated legal points, many witnesses and, often, thousands of documents.

Our clients include some of the largest and most high-profile companies and individuals on the island with whom we have fostered decades-long working relationships. We also act on behalf of a large number of semi-public bodies of the Republic of Cyprus as well as international companies and a number of foreign governments and international institutions, such as the EU Commission, entrust us to represent them before the Courts of Cyprus.

Some of the world’s largest international law firms entrust this firm with the Cypriot element of their multijurisdictional disputes. We are routinely tasked by our clients and the foreign law firms that instruct us with obtaining or resisting interim relief in the form of Mareva injuctions, Anton Piller orders, Norwich Pharmacal orders and Chabra orders. We are also heavily involved in enforcing or resisting the enforcement of foreign arbitral awards and foreign judgments.

We have a reputation for achieving results and a number of our advocates are ranked in the international legal directories. The firm has the manpower, expertise and resources to allocate accordingly to each case so that it can be litigated successfully. Dedicated teams of lawyers and paralegals work in unison so that a cost-effective service can be provided to the client. The firm also uses the latest technology, both in relation to communication and document storage. This technology allows us to keep impeccable records both for updating clients in relation to the progress of their case and for transparency in billing.
